A blog requires content
While writing “a blog requires content” may seem utterly unnecessary, I’m surprised that so many people think that a blog is like a magic potion that creates excitement without any work on the blogger’s part. Now I also know that it’s easy for many of us to get immersed in making our blogs pretty or to overdose on preparing to blog because we think it has to be “just right.”
To build a community around our blogs, we must first be able to attract one reader (besides ourselves
), and to do that, we need to provide something on our blog that draws them there — this is our content.
So, while you’re adding plugins, experimenting with themes, and even deciding what to name your blog, start writing and posting content. Put your content out for the world to see and keep at it. Once you’ve got a few posts live, invite friends, family, and other bloggers to read what you’ve written. Then keep writing. Blogging is a journey, not a destination.
Think of it like this, if you owned a grocery store, you would have products on your store shelves so customers would have a reason to come shop with you. If you didn’t have products for sale, people wouldn’t come to your store more than once.
Get writing and posting. Once you’ve got some posts for us to read, drop a link into the comments section and we’ll come visit.
