Why you should become a blogger
Blogging offers businesses significant benefits that traditional websites do not. Particularly for service professionals such as coaches, therapists, consultants, and writers, blogs can help increase their visibility, free them up from dependence on their web designers, and build relationships with potential clients.
If you’re not sure if blogging is for you, ask yourself these questions:
- Do I want to attract people ready to buy what I have to sell?
- Would I like to be less dependent on my web designer?
- Do I have a storehouse of wisdom and ideas to share?
- Would I like to use my financial resources and time more effectively?
If you answered “yes” to ANY of these questions, learning about blogging needs to be on your “to do” list. Listen to the recording of “What, Me Blog?,” my no-geek-speak teleclass about the power of blogs. I offer specific information about:
- Why a blog is better for business than a regular website
- How to determine if blogging is right for you and your business
- What to do to fast-track your way to blogging success

Simple wedding tips coming to a TV near you
You may or may not know that I am a published author. My two books are:
The Marriage Vow Workbook I coauthored with my phenomenal husband, Bruce Mulkey. We now use the book to coach couples through the writing of their wedding vows and preparing for marriage (a healthy, happy, fulfilling marriage, of course). Of course we do workshops for couples, relationship teleclasses, book signings and media appearances. Many of these events are regional, so you likely haven’t met us yet. Well now is your chance . . . because we’re going to be on a television near you as we make our
national television debut!
So, if you’re looking for free, inspirational, and practical ideas for your wedding, be sure to watch the Simple Weddings episode of Simple Living with Wanda Urbanska. It’s a PBS show televised in most markets nationwide. It is due to air sometime between January 15 and January 22. To find out when it airs in your town, click here.
Here are some of the wedding resources you’ll find on the show:
- Be inspired by the wedding of Eddie McGee and Anna Nixon. This couple involved friends and family in creating their wedding ceremony. Their vehicles of choice after the reception were their bicycles.
- Marriage experts, none other than yours truly, Shonnie Lavender and Bruce Mulkey, share insights on how to write your own wedding vows and plan for a successful marriage right from the start.
- Get tips from wedding experts on creating a ceremony that is green, meaningful, and even low cost.
Please pass the word along to any friends who are engaged and looking for ideas on creating a meaningful, unique, and magical wedding. Feel free to stop by our blog after the show and let us know what you thought.
Become a love magnet
“The secret of attraction is to love yourself. Attractive people judge neither themselves nor others. They are open to gestures of love. They think about love, and express their love in every action. They know that love is not a mere sentiment, but the ultimate truth at the heart of the universe.”
~ Deepak Chopra
By now, most of you know about the movie, The Secret, which explains the Law of Attraction, and shows you how to begin using this tremendous power in your life. If

“We do not fall in love, we grow in love and love grows in us.”
~ Dr. Karl Menninger
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears
Seventy-five percent of the time we are distracted, preoccupied or forgetful (according to Hunsaker). Yes, that’s 3/4 of our waking moments spent disconnected from information or people. What kind of results is this getting us (and maybe even you personally)? Here are a few possibilities:
- poor performance at work or school
- arguments propelled by miscommunication
- missed opportunities in business
- resentment between friends, family, colleagues, or countries
- lack of connection with the Divine
Question: So, what’s one thing you can do to minimize your personal distractions, preoccupations or forgetfulness? Is it:
A) Get a Blackberry
B) Throw away your crackberry Blackberry
C) Get a time machine and travel to “simpler times”
D) Give up. Realize you’ll have to live with distraction, overwhelm, and. . .uh. . .fuzzy memory (Some people have legitimate memory issues, and this isn’t poking fun at them.)
Answer: None of the above. The one thing you can do to minimize the negative effects of living at the modern speed of life is. . .learn to listen effectively.
And I’ve got an extremely valuable class that I’m offering to you free complimentary at no charge because I believe that better listening is key to a better life. Below are the basic facts about this class. Click the title of the class to learn more or register.
Listening for Love: Effective Listening for Couples*
Wednesday, November 15, 2006
7-8 p.m. Eastern
Via telephone conference call
(i.e., If you have a phone you can be in the class.)
Our three primary objectives for this complimentary communications class are to learn:
- Why effective listening is vital to a healthy relationship
- The crucial differences between “hearing” and “listening”
- Some of the barriers that prevent you from hearing what’s really being said
*Even though the class is geared to couples, any person, regardless of their current relationship status, can benefit from participating.
If in all our practices of life we could learn to listen . . . if we could grasp what the other persons are saying as they them-selves understand what they are saying, the major hostilities of life would disappear for the simplest reason that misunderstanding would disappear.
~Harry Overstreet
I hope I’ll hear your voice chiming in during our discussion about Listening for Love on November 15. Learn more about this class or register now.
