Do you want more intimacy in your relationship?
Do you want to hear what your mate is really saying?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, join us Wednesday, November 15, 2006 from 7-8 pm Eastern for Listening for Love: An Introduction to Effective Listening, a powerful and practical class. During this 55-minute session, you will learn:
- Why effective listening is vital to a healthy relationship
- The crucial differences between “hearing” and “listening”
- Some of the barriers that prevent you from hearing what’s really being said
Listening for Love: An Introduction to Effective Listening is a class for couples who want to communicate more effectively. We focus on effective listening, one of the most important, yet most neglected, of our communication skills. Some of the benefits couples who participate can expect are:
- Increased intimacy
- Deeper understanding–of your partner and from your partner
- Greater awareness about your own strengths and challenges as a listener
- More openness toward hearing “positive” or “negative” feedback
Listening for Love is open to all couples (married or dating, heterosexual or homosexual, older or younger, currently struggling or currently satisfied). You are also welcome to join us if you’re not currently in a relationship.
The Listening for Love introduction is offered free of charge, provided you register at least 7 days before your class date. All calls are recorded and by registering you agree to the recording of the call.
Listening for Love is developed and taught by Shonnie Lavender and Bruce Mulkey, the wife and husband authors of I Do! I Do! The Marriage Vow Workbook. Shonnie is a certified coach and graduate of Coach U. She earned her BS in Speech Communication with High Honors from The University of Texas at Austin. Bruce is a writer and former communications and marketing consultant with over 25 years dedicated to producing effective communications for organizations and companies throughout the U.S.

It’s so great that you are offering this course– and for free even!
Most people don’t realize that we spend more time listening than in any other form of communication. However, listening is not a skill we are born with and not a subject we learn in school. We are taught reading, writing, and even public speaking, but rarely– even at most universities– are people taught listening skills. With listening being as important as it is to successful communication and relationships, you’d think it’d be taught somewhere along the way as a prerequisite to– everything else?
Like you I’m a relationship coach and also a communication professor. So many people need to learn how to listen effectively. Your class represents a fabulous opportunity for everyone. I hope it’s filled to the limit!
